Instead of a bonfire or flare, Angle Community Council registered a searchlight as its contribution to the thousands of beacons being lit to commemorate the Jubilee. It may not have been the hottest, but with nearly half a billion candlepower it was certainly one of the most visible.
The ex-army searchlight, one of the exhibits which will be displayed at Chapel Bay Fort & Museum, was exposed vertically from the fort above Angle between 22:15 and 24:00 on Monday 4th June. It could be clearly seen from the Cleddau Bridge, Pembroke Dock, a distance of some 8 miles, despite today’s light pollution.
